Sun n' Fun 2001

Every April aviation enthusiasts from all over the world converge on Lakeland Florida to enjoy fun in the sun at a fly-in event second in size only to Oshkosh.

For the past four years AWAM member Marcia Buckingham has participated as a volunteer instructor of aviation electrical installation, troubleshooting and repair techniques in the Basic Electronics Workshop. The many different hands on workshops at Sun n' Fun are set up primarily to aid homebuilders, however many yearly visitors are owners and mechanics on production aircraft as well. Regardless of the attendees' experience level in aircraft construction and maintenance, they can always find something new to learn and experience in the workshops.

Instructors in the Basic Electronics Workshop demonstrate and explain tools and techniques. Participants get a chance to try their hand at everything from crimping and pinning to soldering and dressing harnesses.

As building projects often take years, many participants return each year with additional questions and requests for help. This year some project builders brought in photos of some really impressive work they performed as a result of the training they received at previous workshops. Since the volunteers rarely get see the results of their efforts, they really appreciated those photos and testimonials.

If you come to this event in 2002, please be sure to stop by and visit the workshops. Volunteers in all skills are always needed and the pay back is worth more than money.
