Denise WatersDenise and AWAM member Ruth Maestre are currently flying a race from London, England to Sydney, Australia. To follow their progress go to www.racedr.com Denise has been involved in aviation for the last twelve years. She earned her wings in Teterboro, NJ and holds a Commercial Pilot Certificate with Single-Engine, Multi-Engine and Instrument ratings with about 1800 hours. She is currently finishing up the work needed to complete her "wrenches" (A&P) as well as starting work towards a Certified Flight Instructor Certificate (CFI). Denise's goal is to work in General Aviation and possibly Corporate Aviation. A tight aircraft rental market in the New York City area combined with her desire to understand everything about the aircraft she flew, prompted Denise to purchased a kit plane. Her father was a pilot and mechanic in the 1940's and acts as mentor on the project. She is also President of Air, Land and Sea, Inc., based in NY. It is a company which specializes in Construction, Business and Computer consulting as well as sailboat charter and delivery work. Denise is a member of AWAM, WAI, EAA, 99's, AOPA and AirLife Line and Miracle Flight for kids. She owns and maintain a 1979 Grumman Tiger. She flies EAA Young Eagles to introduce kids to flight (and maintenance too) and flies volunteer missions for AirLife Line to assist in getting people in need to medical assistance. For the last five years, Denise has been involved with Air Racing and has won first place in the Air Race Classic in 1999 and 2000. She enjoys the Air Racing because it incorporates all aspects of aviation, both flying and maintenance and many times the money raised is for a charity or to send a child to Space Camp. She has flown the Air Race Classic (formerly Powder Puff Derby), the Great Southern Air Race, the US Air Race, the Race to Kitty Hawk, the Great Hawaiian Air Race, and St Petersburg 99's Oct Air Rally.
