The FAA announced at the Women in Aviation Conference, that AWAM will be a sponsor of the new FAA Award for women in maintenance. Right now there is only the Charles Taylor Award for over 50 years continuous service as a mechanic. Most of us won't be eligible for that for many years. The proposed "Rosie the Riveter Award" was announced by Marty Bailey and AWAM member Linda Goodrich, of the FAA, at the AWAM Members Meeting and at the Mimosa Breakfast event. AWAM members suggested that perhaps the name could be changed to the "Phoebe Fairgrave Omlie Award" or the "Phoebe Award" in honor of the first certificated woman aircraft mechanic. Her license, #422 has the date July 31, 1933.
