SPECIAL INDUSTRY AND EDUCATION AWARDS RECEIVED BY AWAM

The Association for Women in Aviation Maintenance received two special awards in the last quarter of 1999 recognizing The Association for their unique role in promoting the aviation maintenance career field for women. The Vocational Education Equity Council awarded AWAM the "Breaking Tradition Achievement Award" at the national conference of American Career and Technical Education in Orlando.

Marcia Buckingham, AWAM President, accepted the award and commented "that AWAM is honored to be given this special award and to be recognized for making efforts to bring equity into this non-traditional career field."

At the November, 1999 FAA/NASCAR AMT awards program in Atlanta, AWAM was given a special recognition award from the Federal Aviation Administration. Phil Randall, Manager, Aviation Safety Program Airworthiness, said the award was in recognition and appreciation of AWAM's support in promoting aviation safety through active participation in the FAA Aviation Maintenance Technician Awards Program.
