This is Sherrie Fenton in Upland, California. It’s my pleasure to inform you that AWAM chapter #4 had its first meeting on November 11, at the 94th Aero Squadron restaurant at Van Nuys Airport. The meeting was attended by seven supporters, consisting of five women and two men! Robin Lamar was in attendance, and offered her valuable insights pertaining to our new chapter and how to get started. As those in attendance introduced themselves and told their stories, we found common bonds and even some networking opportunities.

 As pilot Joyce Samuelson spoke of flying, and PAMA scholarship winner Cathy Soper related her soaring hot air balloon exploits, you can’t miss the gleam in the eye and the catch in the voice of people who love aviation. The enthusiasm is contagious, and reminds us that we are here to inform and empower other women to get on board in this industry! Other attendees included Janice Topolse, Warren Horton and Scott Rubke. Our next meeting is scheduled to take place at the 94th Aero Squadron restaurant on Tuesday December 9, 2003, from 5:30 to 6:30, just before the PAMA meeting.
